We became interested in the
Bearded Collie in the early 70's, but waited to obtain our first Beardie (as
they are affectionately called) until our children were about grown, in the late
80's. Buzzy came to us as an 18 month old to help our elderly lab cross accept
the passing of her mother. Buzzy aka Braemoor's Bumblebee Buzz adapted well to
her new life with us and we were smitten.
We then acquired our 2nd
Beardie who became our first champion Fonzie aka Ch Shaghollow Willyn Spirit,
and the rest is history. Fonzie was a fawn/white with a wonderful soft
temperament.
We are committed to breeding a
sound dog in temperament and structure. One that can perform its function as a
herding dog with good instinct. Our dogs are of the "old fashioned"
variety with a harsh coat with plenty of daylight beneath.
Due to medical issues that
evolved during the 90's, we began investigating smaller breeds that I could
continue to show myself. Our requirements were a similarity in both temperment
and looks to the Beardie. We found the Havanese after a recommendation from a
long time Beardie couple that had a friend involved in the Havanese breed. After
researching the breed for over 2 years and talking to many Havanese breeders, we
were convinced that this breed would indeed be a good compliment to the Beardies
we currently own and show, and one that would fit our lifestyle. We obtained our
first Havanese, Dixie aka Los Perritos Dixie Chick and shortly after Trucker,
aka Los Perros Built to Last in the late spring of 1999. We started showing
Dixie in the fall of 99; she then became our first AKC champion in the summer of
2000. Our first litter from Dixie produced Patches, aka Jubo-Lees Patchwork
Quilt co-owned by us, who became a champion out of the Bred By Exhibitor class
and our first homebred champion. The year of 2001 was a great year for us as we
put the title of AKC champion on five of our dogs.
We are committed, again, to
breeding a sound dog in both temperament and structure. A companion dog with a
loving intelligent spirit, at home in the show ring as well as on the couch next
to its beloved humans.
